Queensland’s snow season just got a direct runway. From June 15, 2026, Jetstar takes off on a brand-new direct route between Brisbane Airport (BNE) and Queenstown Airport (ZQN) — no connections, no stopovers, sunshine to snowfield in under four hours.
This is not a trial. And Jetstar is not alone. Air New Zealand launches its own Brisbane–Queenstown seasonal service on June 22, operating three flights per week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Queenstown–Brisbane corridor has, in the space of one ski season, gone from a thin market served by a single Qantas year-round service to a three-carrier corridor with daily equivalent capacity. For Queenslanders chasing powder — and for New Zealanders heading north for Queensland’s spring warmth — the options have never been better.

For years, Queenslanders wanting to ski in New Zealand faced a frustrating routing problem. There was no direct service from Brisbane to Queenstown at a price point that made the ski trip genuinely accessible. Travellers either paid full-service Qantas fares on the single direct service, or routed through Auckland and added two to three hours to the journey. The result: Queensland was significantly underrepresented in Queenstown’s Australian visitor numbers, despite being Australia’s fastest-growing state.
Jetstar is set to launch direct flights between Brisbane and Queenstown in June 2026, marking a clear expansion of its trans-Tasman network. The new route will operate three times a week during the snow season using A320ceo aircraft, delivering more than 17,000 low-fare seats annually — with Queenslanders able to trade sunshine for snow in just under four hours.
One-way flights from Brisbane to Queenstown are available from $249 at jetstar.com. At that price point, a family of four can now fly direct to the ski slopes for under $2,000 in economy — a figure that simply did not exist on this corridor before.
Flight JQ195 departs Brisbane at 10:30 AM, arriving Queenstown at 15:55 local time. The return service JQ196 departs Queenstown at 17:10, arriving Brisbane at 19:00. The schedule has been engineered for practicality — Brisbane departure in the mid-morning means a full afternoon in Queenstown on arrival day, and the Queenstown evening departure catches a full ski day before heading home.
The launch of Jetstar’s route triggered a rapid response from Air New Zealand — and the result is a genuinely competitive three-carrier corridor for the first time in Queenstown’s history as an Australian visitor destination.

Air New Zealand (NZ) — From June 22, 2026 Air New Zealand has announced a seasonal direct service between Queenstown and Brisbane beginning June 22, 2026, operating until October 23, 2026 — aligning with Queenstown’s ski season and Queensland’s spring season. The airline will fly three return services per week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with departures from Queenstown at 9:05 AM and from Brisbane at 11:55 AM.
Qantas (QF) — Year-Round Qantas operates the only year-round service on the Brisbane–Queenstown corridor — a premium full-service option for travellers who need flexibility outside ski season or prefer Qantas Frequent Flyer earning on every flight.
For ski season 2026, Queenslanders now have a genuine choice of carrier, timing, and price point on direct services to Queenstown — arguably the best-connected ski destination from Brisbane has ever been.
Queenstown in June is not what most Australians picture when they imagine New Zealand. The tourist buses of the shoulder seasons have thinned. The lake reflects the snow-capped Remarkables under a sky that clears impossibly fast. And the ski fields — Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Cardrona — are at or near their opening-day peak.

Snow season dates: Coronet Peak and The Remarkables typically open mid-June, with Cardrona following within a fortnight. All three fields are expected to be fully open by early July 2026.
Non-skiing: Queenstown’s adventure infrastructure does not shut down for winter. Bungy jumping at the Kawarau Gorge — the world’s first commercial bungy — operates year-round. The combined effect: Auckland, Queenstown, Christchurch and Wellington are all becoming more accessible from Australian east coast cities at competitive price points. Queenstown in June and July is genuinely cold. Average daytime temperature in Queenstown town centre in July is 8°C, dropping to -2°C overnight. On the ski fields at altitude, windchill can take the effective temperature well below -10°C on exposed runs.
Australians arriving from Brisbane — where the June average is 21°C — frequently underestimate this transition. The under-four-hour flight time makes it feel like a short hop; the temperature differential is closer to a Sydney-to-London shift in feel.
