The Bandhavgarh National Park was originally the private hunting forest of the kings and royal family members of the Rewa dynasty. It had many White tigers at the time and was a famous tiger reserve and a pride of the state of Madhya Pradesh. There are myriad wild animals, birds and reptiles in this park. The reserve has a sizable population of Sambar, barking deer and the nilgai, the Indian wolf, the hyena and the caracal. The park also has cheetal also known as the 'spotted deer' which is the main prey of the tiger and the leopard in the forests.
