The day of strikes and demonstrations France has been bracing for is under way: Eurostar has cancelled three services, TGV traffic is slightly disrupted, regional and Paris-area trains are heavily disrupted, but the Paris metro is running normally and flights at Charles de Gaulle and Orly are expected to run as scheduled.
Five union confederations called a national day of strikes and demonstrations over wages, public services and the 2027 budget, and all four representative SNCF rail unions joined. SNCF says TGV services will be “slightly disrupted” and Intercités, TER and Île-de-France trains “disrupted.” The worst-hit line in Paris is the RER D.
Eurostar has cancelled trains 9004, 9015 and 9052 because of strike action on its network and warns of possible knock-on effects on French routes. This article is updated through the day. Here is where things stand.

| Network | Status Today | Notes |

| Eurostar | 3 trains cancelled (9004, 9015, 9052) | Eurostar cites strike action and warns of knock-on effects on French routes; check your train before leaving for the station |
| TGV | Slightly disrupted | Roughly one in ten TGVs cancelled, per reports of SNCF’s plan |
| Intercités and TER | Disrupted | Some regions run about one regional train in two |
| RER A | Normal | Operated by RATP |

| RER C | Disrupted | About 1 train in 2 |
| RER D | Severely disrupted | About 1 train in 3 — worst hit |
| RER E | Disrupted | About 2 trains in 3 |
| Paris metro, bus and tram | Normal | RATP planned normal service; an open-ended CGT notice means individual local stoppages cannot be ruled out |
Check SNCF Connect, Transilien and RATP on the day for the trains actually scheduled; the line-by-line plan was published on Wednesday afternoon.
The DGAC, France’s civil aviation authority, said on Wednesday that it had not asked airlines to cut flights, so CDG and Orly are expected to operate normally. Aviation unions, including ground handling and security staff groups, also joined the call to strike, so individual airlines or services could still be affected. Check your flight in your airline’s app.
| Airport | Rail Link Today | Alternatives to Check |
|---|---|---|
| Charles de Gaulle (CDG) | RER B disrupted: about 1 in 2 trains north of Gare du Nord | Roissybus, taxi or ride-hailing; allow extra time |
| Orly (ORY) | RER C disrupted: about 1 in 2 trains | Metro line 14 serves Orly and RATP expects normal metro service; verify before travelling |
| Evening travel to CDG | RER B is suspended on weekday evenings after 22:45 between Châtelet–Les Halles and the CDG and Mitry-Claye branches (a standing works schedule, separate from the strike) | Plan a taxi or bus for late arrivals |
The inter-union demonstration is set for 14:00 to 19:00 between Place de la République and Place de la Nation along Boulevard Voltaire. The Paris police prefecture banned the unions’ preferred Bastille–Concorde route on Wednesday, and the Paris administrative court rejected the unions’ appeal that evening. Expect road closures, heavy police presence and crowded streets in the 3rd, 10th, 11th and 12th arrondissements, and allow extra time for taxis and buses in the east of the city. Disruption in Paris continues through the weekend: a Yellow Vests protest is planned for Saturday and metro line 6 is closed on Sunday, according to Sortiraparis.
| Situation | What Usually Applies | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| TGV or Intercités train cancelled | SNCF says affected customers will be contacted and can exchange or refund tickets without fees | Use SNCF Connect or the app |
| Eurostar train cancelled | Eurostar offers rebooking or a refund; it says it is trying to help passengers find the best way forward | Check Eurostar’s travel updates and your booking |
| Flight delayed or cancelled by an air traffic control or airport-staff strike | Refund or re-routing, plus care; compensation is usually not due when disruption is outside the airline’s control | Keep boarding passes and receipts |
| Missed connection (train to flight) | Depends on whether it was on one ticket | Book a long buffer; avoid tight connections today |
| Travel insurance | Policies bought after the strike was announced may exclude it | Read the strike clause |
General guidance, not legal advice.
The unions have not said whether they will call further action, and the pay dispute is unresolved. Friday’s launch of the TGV M on Paris–Marseille could see residual disruption. We’ll update this article through the day.
