Naples Capodichino Airport — one of southern Italy’s busiest international gateways — will be completely closed to commercial aviation for the entire month of November 2026. Not partially closed. Not reduced schedule. Every single arrival and departure is suspended from November 1 to November 30, 2026. Airport operator GESAC confirmed the closure for radical runway requalification works. Salerno Costa d’Amalfi and Cilento Airport (QSR), 60 kilometres south-east of Naples, will serve as the replacement hub. Lufthansa Group has suspended all Naples flights for the entire month. easyJet, Vueling, flydubai, Transavia, ITA Airways and Eurowings are rerouting to Salerno. If you hold any flight booking into or out of Naples for November 2026 — treat it as cancelled. Act today.
Naples Airport will close for the entire month of November 2026 while the runway is requalified — a hard stop that forces every Naples-bound flyer to rebook, refund, or reroute through another Italian gateway.
Airport operator GESAC confirmed: Naples Airport will be closed in November 2026 for radical and scheduled runway renovation work, in compliance with rigorous industry regulations and in line with GESAC’s priority commitment to ensuring the highest safety standards.
The closure covers the airport’s sole runway (06/24) and its complete taxiway system. Naples Capodichino Airport will close for the entire month of November 2026, from 1 to 30 November, while its sole runway undergoes major rehabilitation works including its connections with the taxiway system.
Airport authorities selected November for the closure because it traditionally represents one of the quietest periods for passenger traffic. Naples Capodichino handled over 13.2 million passengers in 2025 — November is historically its lowest-traffic month, which is precisely why this date was chosen.
The radical upgrade project was originally scheduled for a 42-day window between January and March 2026, but Italy’s civil aviation authority ENAC and airport operators postponed it to November, historically the quietest month for air traffic, to minimise passenger disruptions.
The bottom line: If you have any Naples NAP booking for any date between November 1 and November 30, 2026 — your flight will not operate from Capodichino. Check your booking right now.
Airlines have taken two approaches to the closure — relocate to Salerno, or suspend entirely.
Lufthansa Group — Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, Zurich ALL suspended
On 22 July 2026, the Lufthansa Group irregularity desk told agents that all flights between Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, and Zurich and Naples are suspended from 1 through 30 November 2026 because of the runway works. It suspends FRA, MUC, VIE, and ZRH service to Naples for 1 to 30 November 2026 and auto-rebooked many passengers toward Rome Fiumicino on 23 July 2026.
If you are booked on Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Swiss or Eurowings between any of these cities and Naples in November — you have likely already been rebooked to Rome Fiumicino. Check your email and your booking immediately.
ITA Airways — Rome–Naples replaced by bus
ITA Airways will operate its Milan Linate service via Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport during November, while its Rome–Naples route will be replaced by bus services.
During 2026, airlines such as Aeroitalia, Ryanair, easyJet, Volotea and Wizz Air operate or have scheduled flights from Salerno. In November 2026, during the extraordinary schedule linked to the closure of Naples airport, connections from Transavia, Iberia, Vueling, Luxair, Eurowings, flydubai, and Neos are also planned.
flydubai — confirmed move to Salerno
In an operational update published on 22 July 2026, flydubai said planned maintenance at Naples International Airport would move its daily service from DXB Terminal 3 to Salerno Costa d’Amalfi and Cilento Airport for the full month of November. flydubai says its daily DXB Terminal 3 service operates to Salerno instead of Naples.

Action point: Every passenger with a November Naples booking must check their airline’s website today. Do not assume your flight is automatically cancelled — many airlines have rebooked silently without sending a prominent email alert.
Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport is approximately 60 kilometres south-east of Naples. The airport’s full official name is Salerno Costa d’Amalfi and Cilento Airport. Its IATA code is QSR. It is located in Pontecagnano Faiano, in the Province of Salerno, approximately 13 miles south-east of Salerno city centre.
Salerno is a small regional airport. In normal operations it handled 380,606 passengers in its most recent full year — compared to Naples Capodichino’s 13.2 million. This situation will transform Salerno airport into one of the main hubs for air traffic in Campania for at least a month. This is an important real-world test, not only to tackle the emergency caused by the closure of Capodichino, but also to gauge how ready Salerno is to handle heavier traffic.
In plain terms: Salerno will be handling far more passengers than it normally does. Expect longer processing times, limited facilities, and queues well beyond what the airport is designed for. Allow extra time at every stage.
This is the most important practical information for most passengers. Salerno Airport (QSR) is NOT in Naples — it is 60km south-east. Here are the key transfer times and options:
| Destination | From Salerno Airport | Transfer Time | Approx. Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Naples city centre | Private transfer or taxi | 60–90 minutes | €80–120 |
| Naples city centre | Bus (CSTP/SITASud) | 90–120 minutes | €8–12 |
| Amalfi | Private transfer | 35–50 minutes | €90 |
| Ravello | Private transfer | 45 minutes | €100 |
| Sorrento | Private transfer | 60–75 minutes | €110–130 |
| Pompeii | Private transfer | 30–40 minutes | €65–80 |
| Salerno city centre | Bus or taxi | 20–30 minutes | €15–25 |
| Paestum | Private transfer | 30 minutes | €60 |
Silver lining for Amalfi Coast visitors: A transfer from QSR to Amalfi (€90, 35 minutes) versus NAP to Amalfi (€220, 90 minutes) is a difference of €130 and 55 minutes each way — €260 and nearly 2 hours over the round trip. If your November trip is focused on the Amalfi Coast, Salerno is actually the better airport.
Cruise passengers: If you are flying into the Naples area to join a Mediterranean cruise departing from Naples cruise terminal (Molo Beverello or Stazione Marittima), allow a minimum of 2.5 to 3 hours from Salerno Airport to the cruise terminal — longer if traffic is heavy. Do not book transfers assuming a 90-minute journey.
This section is exclusively for passengers flying to Naples to join a Mediterranean cruise in November 2026. This is one of the most underreported aspects of the Naples closure and affects thousands of Australian, UK, US and Canadian cruise passengers.
November is a major month for repositioning cruises, Mediterranean late-season itineraries and transatlantic crossings that call at or depart from Naples. The following cruise lines regularly operate Naples-based or Naples-calling itineraries in November: MSC Cruises, Costa Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, Princess Cruises, Carnival, Holland America and Viking Ocean.
The problem: If your cruise departs from Naples Cruise Terminal, or if Naples is a port call on your Mediterranean itinerary, your logistics have fundamentally changed for November.
For cruise passengers DEPARTING from Naples in November:
For cruise passengers with Naples as a PORT CALL:
For cruise passengers RETURNING home from Naples in November:
Naples is one of the UK’s most popular winter city-break and cruise destinations. British Airways operates Heathrow–Naples. easyJet operates Gatwick, Bristol, Manchester, Edinburgh and Liverpool to Naples. Ryanair operates Stansted to Naples.
British Airways has not confirmed its November plan as of publication — check ba.com urgently. EasyJet is relocating to Salerno — check easyjet.com for your specific flight. If your easyJet flight has been cancelled rather than relocated, you are entitled to a full cash refund or rebooking under UK261. If easyJet has changed your departure airport to Salerno without your consent, you have the right to a refund if Salerno is not convenient for you.
American Airlines operates seasonal New York JFK–Naples services. Check aa.com immediately for your November booking status. If American has cancelled your Naples flight, you are entitled to a full cash refund under US DOT rules. If your November trip to southern Italy involves Naples as a gateway, consider rebooking via Rome Fiumicino (FCO) — better connected with US carriers, 3 hours from Naples by high-speed rail.
Australia and NZ passengers travelling to Naples typically connect via Dubai (Emirates, flydubai), Doha (Qatar Airways), Singapore (Singapore Airlines) or European hubs. Emirates has not confirmed its November plan — check emirates.com. flydubai is confirmed relocating to Salerno. Qatar Airways — check qatarairways.com. If your connection goes via a Lufthansa hub (Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich) — your onward Naples flight is suspended. You have been or will be rebooked to Rome. Check your booking.
Air Transat operates Montreal/Toronto–Rome with connecting options to Naples. Air Canada connects via Frankfurt (Lufthansa Group — suspended). Check your booking chain carefully — a Lufthansa-operated final sector into Naples for November will not operate. Rome Fiumicino is your best alternative hub for the Naples region.
| Situation | Your Rights |
|---|---|
| Airline cancels your Naples flight entirely | Full cash refund to original payment OR free rebooking — your choice |
| Airline reroutes you to Salerno without consent | If Salerno is not acceptable, you can request a full refund — EU261/UK261/DOT all apply |
| Airline rebooks you to Rome without consent | Same — if Rome is not acceptable, full refund is available |
| You accept Salerno rerouting | Check your transfer options carefully — see Part 3 |
| You accept Rome rebooking | Allow 2.5–3 hours Naples-bound transfer time from FCO by high-speed rail |
| Travel insurance claim | A scheduled airport closure is a material change — most policies cover the consequential costs |
Key principle: A change of departure or arrival airport is a material change to your contract. Under EU261, UK261 and US DOT rules, you are entitled to a full refund if an airline changes your departure or arrival airport and the alternative is not acceptable to you. You do not have to accept Salerno or Rome if your plans require Naples specifically.
If your airline suspends its Naples service entirely and you want to keep your southern Italy plans:
| Airport | Code | Distance to Naples | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Salerno | QSR | 60km SE — 60-90 min | Amalfi Coast, Cilento, Salerno |
| Rome Fiumicino | FCO | 225km N — 2.5hr by Frecciarossa | Best-connected; widest choice |
| Rome Ciampino | CIA | 225km N — 2.5hr by bus+train | Ryanair, easyJet from UK |
| Bari | BRI | 260km E — 3hr by train | Puglia-based visitors |
| Catania/Palermo | CTA/PMO | Sicily — ferry to mainland | Sicily-based itineraries |
The Rome option: Rome Fiumicino to Naples by Frecciarossa takes approximately 2 hours 40 minutes and runs multiple times daily. A return train ticket costs approximately €40–80 depending on booking date. For many UK, US and Australian passengers, flying into Rome and taking the high-speed train to Naples is the most reliable November alternative.
| Date | Status |
|---|---|
| Today Oct 1 | 31 days to closure — act now before transfer options sell out |
| Oct 15 | Final recommended date to rebook if you haven’t yet — transfer prices rise sharply after this |
| Oct 25 | Western Sydney Airport opens — unrelated, but marks one week before Naples closure |
| Nov 1 | Naples Capodichino CLOSES — all flights suspended |
| Nov 30 | Final day of closure |
| Dec 1 | Naples Capodichino REOPENS — normal operations resume |
