TRENDING: STORM BOELO’S GUSTS OF UP TO 84MPH CUT POWER TO TENS OF THOUSANDS OF HOMES AND DISRUPTED TRAINS, FERRIES AND FLIGHTS ACROSS SCOTLAND OVER THE WEEKEND. A FRESH YELLOW WIND WARNING COVERS ALL OF SCOTLAND TODAY, TUESDAY OCTOBER 27. HERE IS WHAT IS STILL AFFECTED AND WHAT YOUR RIGHTS ARE.

Published: October 27, 2026

Storm Boelo hit Scotland on Saturday October 24 and Sunday October 25, days after Storm Austen crossed southern Britain on Friday October 23. Most of the figures below are from the weekend and Monday. Conditions change fast, so check your operator before you travel.

The Wind

Location Gust
Argyll and Bute 84mph peak, Sunday morning (Met Office, via Press and Journal)
Inner Hebrides (Tiree) 82mph
South Uist 79mph
Stornoway 71mph

The Met Office amber wind warning ran from 9pm Saturday to 9pm Sunday. Some outlets quote 85mph. Austen’s earlier 84mph gust was at Jersey Airport on Oct 23, a different storm and place.

Today (Tuesday Oct 27): New Yellow Warning

  • A yellow wind warning covers all of Scotland, 03:00–21:00 Tuesday, with gusts above 70mph possible in the far north and the Hebrides (Met Office, via Press and Journal).
  • ScotRail: speed restrictions on several routes until 16:00 Tuesday. ScotRail said the “vast majority” of services ran as normal on Monday.
  • NorthLink Ferries: warned of possible disruption until Thursday.
  • SEPA: flood warnings requiring immediate action at Stonehaven, Lochmaddy and Stornoway on Monday afternoon.

Power Cuts

Time Detail
Sun Oct 25, ~3pm More than 47,000 customers on SSEN’s northern network awaiting reconnection
Over the weekend Almost 100,000 homes had power restored across the north of Scotland and the south-west (Yahoo News)
Mon Oct 26 About 15,000 homes in northern Scotland still without power (SSEN), plus about 500 in Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway
Mon Oct 26, 7:45am More than 200 properties still off in parts of the north-east, with some postcodes not expected back until Wednesday evening

If you lose power: call 105 (free). Charge phones while you can. Check on vulnerable neighbours.

Trains

  • Closed on Monday: Crianlarich–Oban, and Inverness–Wick/Thurso (Network Rail, via Yahoo).
  • Cancelled on Monday morning: Aberdeen–Montrose, Aberdeen–Inverurie and Inverness–Wick services (ScotRail, via Press and Journal).
  • Fort William–Mallaig closed from Saturday night. Check whether it has reopened.
  • Network Rail used a helicopter to inspect lines. Check ScotRail and National Rail today.

Ferries

  • CalMac: 28 of its 30 services faced disruption on Monday, some cancelled (Yahoo News). Corran Ferry crossings were cancelled until further notice on Saturday.
  • Orkney Ferries: cancelled several Sunday sailings.
  • NorthLink: possible disruption until Thursday.

Check each operator’s service status page. Some earlier reports gave 27 of 30. Counts vary by hour.

Flights

  • Aberdeen and Inverness: 22 flights cancelled on Sunday morning, and 8 on Saturday (Press and Journal).
  • A British Airways Aberdeen–Heathrow flight was cancelled on Saturday evening, and an easyJet London–Aberdeen flight diverted to Manchester.
  • We did not find a verified count of cancellations at Heathrow, Schiphol, Dublin or Paris for today. Some aggregator sites published large totals for Sunday Oct 25, but they cite no airport or airline data and are inconsistent, so we have not used them.

Roads and Schools

  • Flooding closed roads including the A78 at Inverkip (Greenock) and the A77 at Lendalfoot, plus several in Dumfries and Galloway.
  • On Monday, 24 schools were closed, 14 of them in Aberdeenshire. North East Scotland College’s Aberdeen City Campus stayed closed on Tuesday due to a power fault.
