British Airways Launches Direct Gatwick–Colombo Flights Tomorrow, October 23: Sri Lanka From £620 Return

TRENDING: BRITISH AIRWAYS RETURNS TO SRI LANKA TOMORROW, FRIDAY OCTOBER 23, WITH NONSTOP FLIGHTS FROM LONDON GATWICK TO COLOMBO THREE TIMES A WEEK ALL WINTER. RETURN FARES START FROM £620. HERE IS THE FULL GUIDE FOR UK TRAVELLERS.

Published: October 22, 2026

British Airways begins nonstop flights between London Gatwick and Colombo on Friday October 23, 2026. The route is seasonal, running through the 2026/27 winter, with three flights a week. Until now, UK travellers to Sri Lanka’s main airport have usually needed a connection through the Gulf or Asia.

This is a return rather than a first: reports say it restores BA’s direct service to Colombo, which ended in 2015, an absence of about 11 years.

Fares and Cabins

Cabin Notes
World Traveller (economy) Return fares from £620, including taxes and carrier fees
World Traveller Plus (premium economy) Available
Club World (business) Available
  • £620 is a “from” fare. It is subject to availability and will not be on every date. Fares in school half-term, Christmas and New Year weeks are normally higher.
  • Compare by checking several departure dates on ba.com before you book.

Why This Route Matters for UK Travellers

  • Sri Lanka’s second-largest market: The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau reports more than 170,000 UK visitors so far in 2026, about 10% of international arrivals, making the UK the island’s second-largest source market.
  • Fewer connections: a nonstop flight can remove a stop in the Gulf or Asia. Journey time depends on the route you would otherwise take, so compare total travel time rather than relying on a headline saving.
  • Timing: winter is a popular season for the island’s southern and western coasts. Rainfall varies by region, so plan your itinerary around the local weather.
  • Overnight flight: departing Gatwick at 17:30 and arriving at 09:00 the next morning means you land at the start of the day.

Before You Book: Practical Checklist

✓ Check ba.com for the exact flight days on your dates ✓ Check your passport validity and Sri Lanka’s current entry and visa rules (UK nationals typically need to apply for an electronic travel authorisation before travel; confirm on the official Sri Lankan immigration site) ✓ Check FCDO travel advice for Sri Lanka ✓ Compare the fare with one-stop alternatives, including total journey time and baggage allowance ✓ Check your cabin baggage and power bank rules, particularly with the UK CAA’s half-term battery guidance in the news ✓ Arrange travel insurance with medical cover ✓ Book airport transfers in advance, and allow extra time on arrival ✓ Pre-book popular activities (train seats, safaris) for the busiest winter weeks

  • If you booked a package through British Airways Holidays, the Package Travel Regulations 2018 apply.
  • Keep receipts and screenshots if the schedule changes.
