Naples Airport Closes Tomorrow: Last Day to Fly Is Today, and What Every November Traveller Must Do Now

Naples Capodichino Airport (NAP) stops handling commercial flights tomorrow, Sunday November 1, and stays closed until November 30. The closure is for a full overhaul of the main runway and connected taxiways, run by operator GESAC with Italy’s civil aviation authority ENAC, at a cost of roughly €19.4 million to €20 million. The runway is being rebuilt end to end, so for a month no plane takes off or lands there.

If you have a Naples trip in November, whether you fly in or out, check your ticket today. Many flights have moved to other airports, and you may be arriving somewhere you didn’t expect. Our full guide to the closure covers the airline-by-airline detail. This article is the last-minute checklist.

Key facts

  • Closure: November 1–30, 2026, for all commercial arrivals and departures.
  • Last day of normal operations: today, Saturday October 31.
  • Why: The works were originally planned for February 2026 and moved to November to make better use of capacity at Salerno’s alternative airport.
  • Main replacement airport: Salerno Costa d’Amalfi (QSR).
  • Other route: Rome Fiumicino (FCO), used by some carriers.
  • Hotels: Travelextra reports November hotel bookings in Naples are down by more than 40%.

Step 1: Check the airport code on your booking

Open your booking and look at the code. NAP is Naples, QSR is Salerno, and FCO and CIA are Rome Fiumicino and Ciampino. Your flight may have been moved even if your confirmation still says “Naples”. Reports differ on how flights are split between Salerno and Rome, so rely on your own booking and your airline’s notice.

What airlines are doing

  • Salerno: easyJet, Vueling, Iberia, flydubai, Eurowings and ITA Airways are shifting or redirecting select services to Salerno.
  • Rome: Lufthansa Group and other carriers are rerouting passengers through Rome Fiumicino. AirHelp reports Lufthansa, Austrian and Swiss are cancelling their Naples services.
  • ITA Airways: ITA keeps its Milan Linate route running through Salerno, and replaces its Rome–Naples shuttle with dedicated bus services during the works.
  • UK routes: Brit Brief reports easyJet from London Gatwick and Ryanair from Stansted, Manchester and Edinburgh are affected, with passengers directed to Salerno. Confirm your specific flight with your airline.

Getting to Naples this November

From Salerno airport: The usual route is a shuttle to Salerno station, then the high-speed train. Napoli Centrale is about 35 minutes from Salerno on the high-speed line. Salerno is much smaller than Naples, so allow extra time.

From Rome Fiumicino: Napoli Centrale is about an hour and ten minutes from Roma Termini by high-speed train. Add the airport-to-Termini leg, and book the train ahead for busy times.

Direct airport buses and shared taxis: As of October 6 these were plans under study, not a published timetable. Check the current status before you rely on them.

Private transfers: Several operators advertise transfers from Salerno and Rome. Compare prices and book ahead.

If you’re flying in to join a cruise from Naples, check which airport your cruise line’s transfers will use.

Your rights if your flight was moved or cancelled

  • Cancelled flight: You’re entitled to a full refund or to rerouting, under EU Regulation 261/2004 (UK261 mirrors this for UK departures). Ask for cash back, not a voucher.
  • Moved to a different airport: Where an airline offers an alternative airport serving the same area, it has to cover the cost of getting you to the airport you originally booked, or to another nearby destination you agree on. This is the legal basis for the “ground transport” cover mentioned in the brief. It’s strongest for Salerno. For Rome, claim the cost of onward transport to your final destination and keep receipts.
  • Compensation: Cash compensation depends on how much notice you were given. If you were told at least 14 days before departure, it’s generally not owed. If you were told later and your rerouting was poorly timed, you may have a claim, though airlines may argue otherwise.
  • US-sold tickets: If your airline cancels, you can request a refund under DOT rules.

If you’re flying today

Today is Naples’ last normal operating day. Check your flight status with your airline, arrive early, and expect a busy terminal. If your flight is cancelled or moved at short notice, ask at the airline desk for rebooking or a refund and for details of any transfer arrangements.

If you have a November trip

  1. Check your airport code today.
  2. Read your airline’s notice or email.
  3. Decide whether the new airport works for you. If not, request a refund or rerouting now, before alternatives fill.
  4. Plan the ground leg: train times, a transfer booking, and extra time for connections.
  5. Tell your hotel and any tour operator if your arrival time or airport has changed.

Bottom line

Naples Airport is closed to commercial flights from tomorrow, November 1, to November 30, 2026. Many flights have moved to Salerno or Rome, and some have been cancelled. Check your booking, plan your ground transport, and use your refund and rerouting rights if the new arrangement doesn’t work.
