KLM’s First Long-Haul A350 Flies Today: Amsterdam–Toronto Debut, Montreal From Dec 14 — and Why You Can’t Book Business Class Yet

TRENDING: KLM’S FIRST AIRBUS A350-900 ENTERS SERVICE TODAY, FRIDAY OCT 30, ON KL691 FROM AMSTERDAM TO TORONTO. MONTREAL IS NEXT, FROM DEC 14 ACCORDING TO KLM’S LATEST SCHEDULE FILING. THE CATCH: THE AIRLINE’S NEW BUSINESS SUITES AREN’T CERTIFIED, SO THEY WON’T BE SOLD ON THESE FLIGHTS YET.

Published: October 30, 2026

For Canadian travellers, KLM is putting its newest aircraft on two of its busiest routes to Canada first. Here is what is confirmed, what changes for passengers, and what to check before you book.

Today’s Flight

Item Detail
Flight KL691 Amsterdam (AMS) to Toronto Pearson (YYZ), returning as KL692
Date Friday October 30, 2026. The first flight leaves Amsterdam at 1:30pm (per your brief; we could not confirm the time in the sources we read)
Aircraft Airbus A350-900 PH-ZNA “De Nachtwacht” (The Night Watch). It arrived at Schiphol on Oct 2
Seats 331
Frequency 5 weekly at first, then daily from March 3, 2027

The first A350 start was delayed from earlier plans (reports had pointed to September), and entry into service moved to late October.

The Cabins

Cabin Seats Detail
World Business Class 34 suites (1-2-1, lie-flat) Not on sale yet. See below
Premium Comfort 26 seats (2-4-2) Collins MiQ seats, 38″ pitch, 19″ width, 8″ recline, 16″ 4K screen (SeatCompare). Seats 11A and 11B are called the best
Economy 271 seats (3-3-3) Includes 33 Economy Comfort seats (MigFlug, SeatCompare)

Other features reported: Panasonic Astrova entertainment, Viasat Wi-Fi and USB-C power at every seat (SeatCompare).

The Catch: No Business Class at Launch

  • KLM’s new World Business Class suites have not completed certification. SeatCompare says the seat has not received EASA certification, and that EASA has approved the test results so certification can begin. KLM blames a “revised interpretation of regulatory requirements.”
  • Bookings for the business suites are not expected to open until early 2027 (GateChecked). KLM has not given a firm date.
  • Only the first two A350s are expected to be affected (AeroCorner).
  • Simple Flying, cited by AeroCorner, reports that business-class ticket holders will be moved to Premium Comfort until the seats are cleared. Check this with KLM for your booking.

What this could mean for your rights

  • If you bought business class on a flight that is then operated with a lower-class seat, EU rules on downgrading may apply to flights departing the EU. Under EU261, a downgrade on a flight of more than 3,500 km can mean reimbursement of 75% of the ticket price for that leg. This is not automatic, and the details depend on your ticket and route. Ask KLM, and keep your booking confirmation.
  • On flights from Canada, Canada’s Air Passenger Protection Regulations and KLM’s conditions apply. Ask KLM what it offers.
  • The sources we read do not say whether KLM offers refunds or compensation for affected business passengers. Check with KLM directly.

Montreal: When the A350 Arrives

Source What it says
AeroRoutes, from KLM’s schedule filing (Oct 15) Amsterdam–Montreal A350: 3 weekly from Dec 14, 2026 to Jan 1, 2027, and again Mar 1 to 26, 2027
Earlier reports (GateChecked, July 24; SeatCompare; MigFlug) A350 on Montreal from Nov 30, 2026, replacing a daily A330-300 through the end of the year

The A350 on Montreal is Dec 14 in KLM’s latest filing, but earlier reports said Nov 30. Plans change, so confirm your exact flight and aircraft on KLM’s site. GateChecked also says the A350 may leave Montreal in January and February, which matches the filing’s gap.

Other A350 Routes (From KLM’s Filing)

Route Starts
Amsterdam–Toronto Oct 30, 2026
Amsterdam–Kilimanjaro–Dar es Salaam Dec 15, 2026 (AeroRoutes). Earlier reports said Dec 1
Amsterdam–Zanzibar–Dar es Salaam Dec 20, 2026 (AeroRoutes). Earlier reports said Dec 6
Amsterdam–Nairobi Jan 5, 2027

KLM has ordered 22 A350-900s, which will replace its A330s and 777-200ERs (MigFlug). Two more are due after PH-ZNA, one later in 2026 and one in March 2027.

What Canadians Should Check Before Booking

✓ Confirm the aircraft on your exact flight date. KLM may still swap in an A330 ✓ If you booked business class, ask KLM now which cabin you will get, and what compensation or refund applies ✓ Check your connection at Amsterdam. KLM’s network connects across Europe, Africa and Asia ✓ Compare Premium Comfort and Economy Comfort if you are choosing between them ✓ Check your seat location on the A350’s 3-3-3 economy layout ✓ Check your points programme (Flying Blue) pricing before you redeem ✓ Check travel insurance for schedule changes
