KLM has taken Dubai off its schedule for the whole of winter. The airline will not operate Amsterdam–Dubai flights during the 2026/2027 winter season, up to and including 27 March 2027, and flights to Riyadh and Dammam are cancelled up to and including 27 November 2026. KLM published the update on October 26. If you hold a KLM ticket to Dubai, Riyadh or Dammam, or an itinerary that connects through Schiphol to any of them, this affects you directly.
This is the latest in a long run of extensions rather than a sudden decision. KLM has not flown to Dubai since the start of 2026, and its autumn restart plan has now slipped to March 2027. One report counts at least 20 postponements of its Gulf return since the start of the year. The difference this time is the length of the window. Instead of extending a few weeks at a time, KLM has cancelled through to the end of the winter season.
KLM’s own Middle East statement page shows the pattern of extensions:
| Date of KLM update | Cancellation window |
|---|---|
| March 1 | All Dubai, Riyadh, Dammam flights through March 5 |
| March 12 | Riyadh and Dammam through March 14 |
| May 6 | Dubai, Riyadh, Dammam through June 28 |
| August 5 | Dubai, Riyadh, Dammam through October 24 |
| October 26 | Dubai through March 27, 2027; Riyadh and Dammam through November 27 |
One aviation blog notes that KLM has now cancelled through the start of the 2027 summer season instead of week by week, a period when Gulf demand typically drops because of the heat.
Refund or rebooking. KLM operates from an EU hub, so flights departing Amsterdam fall under EU Regulation 261/2004. You can choose a full refund or rerouting. Refunds should go back to your original payment method, not a voucher, unless you choose one.
Cash compensation is unlikely. Two things work against a claim here. First, compensation is generally not owed when you are told at least 14 days before departure, and KLM is notifying passengers well ahead. Second, airlines routinely rely on conflict-related “extraordinary circumstances” for Gulf cancellations. If you were told with less than 14 days’ notice, you can still file and ask KLM to state its reasons in writing.
If you booked a package holiday. Your tour operator, not KLM, is responsible for an alternative or a refund, so claim from them.
If you booked through a travel agent or a codeshare partner, request the refund through the seller first.
Travel insurance. An airline cancelling a flight is not the same as you choosing not to travel, so check how your policy treats each. Also check your government’s current advice for your destination.
Check live schedules and fares before booking, because Gulf services are still changing.
| Option | Notes |
|---|---|
| Emirates and flydubai | The home carriers at Dubai. Check current frequencies from your departure airport. |
| Etihad via Abu Dhabi | Useful if your final destination is in the UAE and you can start from Abu Dhabi. |
| Qatar Airways via Doha | A widely used alternative hub for Europe–Gulf and onward connections. |
| Turkish Airlines via Istanbul | Long-running connections to Dubai from many European cities. |
| British Airways and Virgin Atlantic | UK carriers on London–Dubai. British Airways has announced a return from November 3, so confirm on ba.com before relying on it. |
Air France note: Air France’s own notices, as reported on October 28, show Dubai flights suspended through October 31 and Riyadh through November 14. Some availability was also blocked into early November, and extensions have been weekly. Check airfrance.com before building a plan around it.
KLM’s date is a window, not a restart commitment. March 28, 2027 is the first possible resumption, at the start of the summer schedule. Whether it actually restarts then depends on the security situation, airspace conditions and insurance costs. Given how many times the date has moved this year, treat any future KLM Dubai booking as uncertain until the airline confirms it nearer the time.
KLM has cancelled all Amsterdam–Dubai flights through March 27, 2027, and Riyadh and Dammam through November 27, 2026. Affected passengers are entitled to a refund or rerouting, but cash compensation is unlikely because of the advance notice and the conflict-related cause. Check your booking, choose between a refund and rerouting, and don’t plan around a KLM return before the end of March.
