Air Canada is dropping at least four nonstop routes to the United States from its summer 2027 schedule, including Toronto–Charleston, its only direct link between Canada and South Carolina, as cross-border travel stays below pre-2024 levels.
The airline confirmed the cuts to CTV News, with spokesperson Sean Davidson saying it “regularly reviews its schedule” to match capacity to demand. Air Canada says it will still serve Nashville, Raleigh-Durham and Seattle from other Canadian airports, so those cities stay on its map. It did not say whether Charleston will be served from anywhere else in Canada.
A fifth cut, Toronto Billy Bishop–Boston, has also been reported by Global News and schedule tracker AeroRoutes, with service ending earlier, on December 1, 2026. Here’s the full picture for Canadian travellers and US destinations.
Published: October 30, 2026 — Friday Confirmed by Air Canada (to CTV): Vancouver–Nashville, Vancouver–Raleigh-Durham, Toronto–Charleston, Montréal–Seattle Also reported: Toronto Billy Bishop–Boston, ending December 1, 2026 Biggest loss: Toronto Pearson–Charleston — Air Canada’s only direct Canada–South Carolina flight, seasonal and running since March 2024 Why: Weaker demand for US trips amid the ongoing Canada–US trade dispute New US routes for 2027: Toronto–Louisville, Montréal–Indianapolis, Edmonton–Newark Context: WestJet cut 10 US summer routes earlier this year; Air Canada has also cut winter Montréal–Detroit, Montréal–Minneapolis and Toronto–Indianapolis
| Route | Status | What to Know |
|---|---|---|
| Vancouver–Nashville | Removed for summer 2027 | Reported as one of three routes already suspended and due to return in May 2027 |
| Vancouver–Raleigh-Durham | Removed for summer 2027 | Air Canada says Raleigh-Durham stays served from other Canadian airports |
| Montréal–Seattle | Removed for summer 2027 | Air Canada says Seattle stays served from other Canadian airports |
| Toronto Pearson–Charleston | Removed; not returning in 2027 | The only direct link between Canada and South Carolina; popular with snowbirds |
| Toronto Billy Bishop–Boston | Reported cut; ends Dec 1, 2026 | Reported by Global News and AeroRoutes; Air Canada confirmed only the four routes above to CTV |
| New Route | Start | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Toronto–Louisville | April 28, 2027 | Builds to daily service in the season |
| Montréal–Indianapolis | June 1, 2027 | New for summer 2027 |
| Edmonton–Newark | June 1, 2027 | New for summer 2027 |
| Edmonton–San Francisco | Summer 2027 | More capacity using a larger Airbus A220 |
So this is a reshuffle of the transborder network, not an exit from the US market.
Cross-border leisure demand has been weak since the trade dispute began, and Air Canada is trimming seasonal flights to match. Fuel is adding pressure: this week Air Canada cut its 2026 profit outlook, said it has trimmed more than two points of planned first-quarter 2027 capacity, and said it expects to recover only about 70% of its higher fuel costs through fares in the fourth quarter. Canadian airfares were up 19.4% year over year in September, according to Statistics Canada.
| If You… | Do This |
|---|---|
| Have a booking on a route that’s being cut | Check your booking directly with Air Canada; changes to summer 2027 schedules may trigger rebooking or refund options |
| Want Vancouver–Nashville or Vancouver–Raleigh-Durham next summer | Compare connecting itineraries — suggested options include connecting via Calgary, Chicago or Denver; don’t assume another nonstop exists |
| Want Montréal–Seattle | Compare connections via Vancouver or Toronto |
| Want Charleston | Look at connecting itineraries on other airlines; Air Canada has not named a replacement |
| Fly Toronto Billy Bishop–Boston before December 1 | Book soon if you want the nonstop; check alternatives from Pearson after that |
Connection suggestions are indicative and based on published schedule analysis; check live schedules before you book.
Air Canada is likely to keep adjusting its transborder schedule as fuel costs and demand shift, and WestJet has already cut US routes this year. We’ll update this article if Air Canada confirms the Boston route, offers a Charleston alternative, or announces more changes.
